Louise McCarthy
Louise McCarthy began her career designing both sets and costumes in the field of live theatre. Her work now is predominantly as a costume designer for film and television drama.
Louise’s most recent work as a costume designer includes the BBC One/Stan series, Ten Pound Poms, series 2, CBS/Kojo Studios comedy series, Gold Diggers, TV miniseries, Last King of the Cross for Helium and the sbs web series, A Beginners Guide to Grief. Louise was the costume designer for the final two seasons of the iconic tv series Wentworth, the feature films Relic and Storm Boy and all five seasons of The Doctor Blake Mysteries. Previous TV Drama includes Seasons One and Three of Nowhere Boys and the establishing season of Offspring. Earlier TV drama includes Kick for SBS, Dead Gorgeous and Short Cuts for Burberry Productions. Previous Costumes for film include Blessed, The Last Dance, Serenades, The Forest, Road to Nhill, Life and Harrys War. Costumes for documentary drama include James Cameron Deep Sea Challenge, Australia on Trial and Pozieres.
Louise has designed costumes for many theatre companies including Ngangwarra Heart for Black Arm Band, Tribes, The Birthday Party and Cruel and Tender for Melbourne Theatre Company. Costumes for dance include Can We Afford This for DV8, Disagreeable Object for Chunky Move and Absolute Pearl for Strange Fruit.
Louise’s most recent combined set and costume designs for theatre include Ulster American for Red Stitch Theatre, Neighbourhood Watch for the State Theatre Company of South Australia, Angela’s Kitchen for the Griffin Theatre Company which toured to Malta in early 2017 and VX18504 for Meryl Tankard Company.
