Lisa Hughes & Marni Little: Writers

Lisa Hughes is a product of the sunny Gold Coast and has spent the last decade growing within the Vancouver film industry. Lisa’s comedy writing has progressed through many workshops, most notably she received a Second City Summer Scholarship in Chicago, studying comedy writing for television and film, sketch, and improv. Lisa’s work can be seen in the Leo award-winning comedy series, The Actress Diaries, where she held the role of showrunner and head writer. The series received two wins from seven nominations across two seasons for the British Columbia Film & Television Awards, and was nominated at the International Academy of Web Television Awards. Both of Lisa’s comedy series The Actress Diaries and GC-based Sporty’s Heroes, were finalists at consecutive Gold Coast Film Festivals, The Actress Diaries winning Best International Web Series in 2018. Lisa loves pizza, climbing trees and throwing a little Lucille Ball physicality into everything she does.

Marni Little is a writer, director and part-time producer with a love for comedy. After early dabbling in some questionably funny shorts, the end of 2018 saw Marni write Valentine’s Day. The film featured in over 20 festivals and took out several awards, including official selection GCFF Sipfest and People’s Choice in the Hollywood Short and Sweet Festival, Los Angeles.

In 2019, Marni  wrote and directed the short film Not Religiously, which was shortlisted for TROPFEST, #BLESSED, and played in the Burleigh Summer Nights series in Queensland and The Talk which featured in seven international festivals as well as placing in Sydney’s Short and Sweet and Date Night (with Christine Milo), which was  a finalist for GCFF SIPFest online festival. Marni also recently wrote and developed a psychological thriller, The Motel, with Brisbane-based team Short Stack, to be pitched at Screen Forever 2023Marni loves people telling her she is funny and dogs. Oh, and her kids.

Lisa and Marni have been working together on several projects spotlighting women in television and film. The pair received a Regional Arts Fund in 2020 to develop a new sports comedy called She’s Got Balls, that was optioned by Northern Pictures and received development funding from Screen Australia. In 2021, they  pitched another comedy series for the Netflix/Children’s Broadcast Initiative and were successful in green lighting the development of My Life is a Movie. The duo have recently completed shooting on another comedy series pilot they will be pitching early 2023 based on Marni’s family life.
