Jordan Shea: Writer
Jordan Shea is a first generation Filipino-Australian writer, whose work engages the conversation surrounding Filipino-Australian narratives, and their place within our national landscape. Their hopes, dreams, and nightmares.
Since graduating from the VCA (Playwriting) under the tutelage of Raimondo Cortese, Jordan was engaged in a residency every year since graduating. Starting in 2017 with the Old 505 Theatre and the Australian Theatre for Young People, 2018 with Q Theatre, Penrith and 2019 with the Sydney Fringe Festival. In 2020-21, Jordan was one of the Philip Parsons Fellows at Belvoir Theatre for emerging playwrights. In 2022, Jordan was comissioned by Australian Plays transform and Performing Lines for a new verbatim play, Diwa and They’re Not Listening was the runner up for best new work at the Australian Theatre Festival NYC. Jordans play Malacanang/Montgomery was nominated for the 2023 Lyscicrates Award.
Credits include Intersection (ATYP), developed with the National Studio, Cage and The House at Boundary Road, Liverpool both at the Old 505 Theatre, and the sell-out, season extended production of Kasama Kita at Belvoir’s Downstairs Theatre, which played to critical acclaim. Jordan has also had works developed with the Sydney Theatre Company Rough Draft program – Barbaric Truth, and, with Australian Plays Transform (formerly Playwriting Australia), The Grocer. He has been shortlisted for Melbourne Theatre Company’s Next Stage program, and the Canberra Youth Theatre Playwriting Award.
He co-wrote One Hour No Oil with Kenneth Moraleda, which was programmed for Belvoir’s 25A program. His partnership with Kenneth Moraleda developed into kwento, a production company where Jordan serves as producer of content. Recently, Jordan’s play, Ate Lovia, was programmed under Red Line Productions for the Old Fitz Theatre and developed with the National Theatre of Parramatta. The work was successful in obtaining Create NSW and City of Sydney funding.
Jordan has been featured on SBS: Insight, the Sydney Morning Herald, Audrey Journal, and recently performed at Queerstories at Giant Dwarf. Screen engagement includes writers’ rooms with Northern Pictures, Fremantle Media/Foxtel and In-between-pictures. Jordan recently finished consulting on Daisy Turnbull’s upcoming book and has a musical in development with the Hayes Theatre Company, written with Vicky Falconer-Pritchard
