Cassie Hamilton: Writer

Cassie is a transgender playwright and performer based in Sydney. She has always had a passion for telling stories in new and inventive ways and loves to blend different genres and styles to create new queer aesthetics. At the centre of all her work are discourses surrounding identity, the performance of gender and the modern-day complexities of queer culture.

In 2017 she co-founded a youth-led queer theatre company in Newcastle called Bearfoot Theatre. There, she debuted her first full-length play in late 2019, Playing Face. Following its highly successful Newcastle season, the production toured to Sydney and achieved much critical acclaim. The show was awarded Best Original Work, Best Dramatic Production and Best Director at the City of Newcastle Drama Awards.

Her new play, Daddy Developed a Pill had a season at the Kings Cross Theatre in  2022. She was also awarded a development grant through the Hayes Theatre’s Creative Development program for a new musical she is currently developing.

Cassie has a diploma of musical theatre and was a part of ATYP’s 2020 Fresh Ink National Mentoring Program for emerging writers. She was a part of the Montague Basement and KXT Laboratory program for 2021. She has also completed the AFTRS How to Write a Television Show short course
