Loani Arman: Writer/Director

Loani Arman is writer, director and producer whose work puts diversity firmly into the centre of the story. Loani’s 8 part series, ‘Mummune’, is being produced by Hoodlum Active and was selected for development as part of the 2020 Screen Queensland + Stan Premium Drama Development Fund and Dame Changer’s Project to Market Accelerator in 2021. Her digital docuseries ‘My Body Says‘ was commissioned through the ABC’s Fresh Start Fund and premiered in July 2020 as part of the ABC’s ‘Your Mental Health‘ initiative. The series won Loani Best Short Form Award at 2021’s Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Awards.

In 2019, Loani won the AACTA Pitch Forever Unexpected competition and went on to make her short film, ‘Our Greatest Escape‘. Later that year, she was selected for the Screen Queensland and Australians in Film ‘Charlie’s Lab’ in Los Angeles to develop a half-hour TV pilot. In 2018, Loani was the director’s attachment on Samantha Strauss’ ‘The End‘ and that same year, wrote and directed the comedy pilot, ‘The Mother Load‘, funded by Screen Queensland. ‘The Mother Load‘ went on to win Best Pilot at WebFest Berlin and was nominated for Best TV Pilot at the Pilot Light TV Festival in the UK.

Loani has also worked as a development executive, most recently as Commissioning Editor at sbs and at Screen Queensland, leading development programs as Content Director. Earlier in her career, she was the Drama Associate at Showtime Australia where she worked closely with esteemed Executive Producer, Kim Vecera, on the drama series Tangle, Cloudstreet, and Satisfaction.
