Kala Ellis: Writer

Kala Ellis is the creator and AWGIE winning writer (for best comedy script) of Spreadsheet (produced by Northern Pictures for Paramount + / Channel 4 / CBC / TVNZ) – a female driven, 8 x 30-minute scripted comedy series, starring iconic UK actress Katherine Parkinson alongside Robbie Magasiva and Stephen Curry – and is about a divorced, hectically busy mother of two who is looking for sex without commitment. Spreadsheet is Kala‘s debut into the narrative comedy space, having previously worked within a plethora of other genres as a Writer, Producer and Director for over 15 years – where she has worked with all manner of talent; celebrities, crocodiles, puppets and politicians – which frankly have rather a lot in common.

 

Her passion is telling authentic stories about just how crazy it is being human – and the more complicated, messy and hilarious, the better. Kala is currently developing a number of new narrative drama/comedy series. Most recently, Kala wrote for the ABC for Kids series, Reef School and the upcoming comedy series, Austin (Northern Pictures/ABC / ITV Studios).
